Our Mission

The mission of the Resurrection Christian School Individualized Education (I-ed) program is to partner with families in the provision of Christ-centered, data-driven support systems that prioritize identified students’ fulfillment of their God-given purpose.

Individualized Education (I-ed) was founded and created upon the idea of “All means ALL!” An academic gap, learning disability, physical disability, or life challenge should not inhibit the ability to receive a Christ-centered education. RCS is focused on accomplishing this vision. As I-ed is still in the beginning years, the team has been working extremely hard to provide a strong foundation for students to thrive. Although we are not able to accommodate every exceptionality yet, we continue to look for ways to grow and develop the programming.

Over the coming years, I-ed will partner with general education teachers, administrators, and most importantly, YOU, to design an academic plan that will support your student throughout their educational journey. Students may continue to have their plan in preschool through 12th grade or may transition out somewhere in between. Either way, we are “all hands on deck” for your student’s learning!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Individualized Education at RCS and Special Education in the public school system?

Special education in the public sector is funded completely by the federal, state, and local governments. It is overseen by IDEA and is legally binding. RCS does not accept any federal or state funding, and is therefore not technically special education or governed by the same laws. RCS does provide very similar testing, plans, and services, and is funded fully by additional fees from the family receiving services.

What are the requirements for enrolling in and receiving I-ed Strategies courses?

To be considered for Individualized Education services, a student must have academic and/or cognitive testing within the last 3 years. This may be completed by a licensed psychologist, doctor diagnosis and plan, or the RCS I-ed administration. RCS I-ed has adopted the Woodcock-Johnson IV, a nationwide normed assessment, that gives insight into a student’s current academic and cognitive abilities. Please note that we do not and will not formally diagnose based on the WJ-IV, as it is used strictly for data collection. Additional data may be required including family/student interviews, teacher evaluations, and more.

Can my student’s IEP or 504 be transferred directly in?

For students applying to RCS with an IEP or 504, an academic plan review will be required by the I-ed administration during the application process. With the data provided, the RCS team will determine if further conversation or evaluation is necessary prior to progressing in the application process. If the student is accepted into RCS, an RCS GOAL or LEAP plan will be written to support the student’s needs.

What is a GOAL and LEAP Plan and how are they written?

Individualized Education focuses on creating data-informed, personalized learning to help all students reach their academic, social, emotional, and spiritual goals in alignment with God’s design and plan. The I-ed team meets yearly to collaborate with a designated I-ed family; members may include the parent/guardian, teacher, administrator, support service provider, and/or student to create a plan to meet the needs of the student. The plan may include academic accommodations and/or modifications for each course of study, followed by a school-wide implementation and embraced by all staff working with the student. All student growth is monitored and documented. The I-ed team strives to academically equip all students to be globally prepared to do the works of God.

A GOAL Plan is designed for students who need accommodations in the general education classroom in order to be successful. Accommodations are changes to the environment, classroom format, or equipment being used to access the general education curriculum. There are no changes to the curriculum being taught. Students must have a formal diagnosis from a doctor or psychologist, or be tested by the RCS I-ed department to receive a GOAL Plan. The GOAL Plan is similar to a 504.

A LEAP Plan is designed for students who need accommodations AND modifications in order to be successful at RCS. Accommodations are changes to the environment, classroom format, or equipment being used to access the general education curriculum. Modifications are a change to the curriculum being taught. Students must have a formal diagnosis from a doctor, or psychologist, or be tested by the RCS I-ed department to be evaluated for a LEAP Plan. The student must also show the need for an individualized curriculum that is different from what they are receiving in their general education classroom. This is determined by the RCS I-ed administration. The LEAP Plan is similar to an IEP.

L.E.A.P. and G.O.A.L. Plans for RCS Students

RCS has two formal plans available to students: G.O.A.L. and L.E.A.P. Each plan is created based on the results of current (within 3 years) Academic and Cognitive Testing. RCS uses the Woodcock-Johnson IV to gather information. Both plans are supported by RCS teachers and are active for a year. Each year, students and parents will meet with the I-ed team to update the plan to meet the current needs of the student.

Modifications vs Accommodations

What is a Modification?

A modification is a change in WHAT a student is taught or expected to learn and alters the curriculum.

Examples of Modifications:

Lower-level/abridged texts
Alternate texts/materials
Alternate projects that hit a different level standard
Adjusting grading scale or rubric
Different course with different curriculum

What is an Accommodation?

An accommodation is a change in HOW the student will learn the same material as their peers and alters the environment.

Examples of Accommodations:

Extended time (1.5x or 2x)
Small group settings for tests
Audiobooks for reading materials
Notes provided to use in lessons
Preferential seating
