Our Philosophy
At RCS, we believe that humanity is made in the image of God (Imago Dei), and no technology can replace the depth of human interaction, relationships, and face-to-face communication.
We prioritize human agency in our approach to technology, ensuring that people — not machines — are at the center of decision-making. Technology is not something to be worshiped or used simply because it exists; rather, it should serve to enhance our mission as a boldly Christian educational community.
Devices by Grade Level
Preschool
No technology is provided or used at the Preschool level.
Elementary
We provide 1:1 devices to support differentiated learning. For example, our Lexia reading platform adapts to each student’s needs, allowing them to progress at their own pace.
| Grades | Device |
| K-2 | iPads |
| Grade 3 – Grade 5 | Chromebooks — students learn typing, word processing, presentations, and other foundational digital skills |
Device Policy: All elementary devices remain at school.
Middle School
Middle school students receive a school-managed Chromebook equipped with a locally installed web filter. These Chromebooks are configured exclusively for educational use, ensuring students stay focused on learning.
High School
High school students are required to bring a Windows laptop that meets RCS’s minimum specifications. Standardizing on Windows ensures compatibility with coursework and allows students to use the Microsoft Office suite, preparing them for college and career success.
All incoming HS students are required to have a Windows-based laptop that meets the minimum specifications listed below. Chromebooks, MacBooks, iPads, tablets, and other devices are not acceptable. Windows-based laptops are required for High School students, especially for students taking Business or STEM electives.

Technology Platforms
RCS uses a set of core platforms to support instruction, records, and daily school operations:
Learning Management System — Canvas
Used in middle and high school, Canvas is a leading Learning Management System (LMS) trusted by universities and schools nationwide.
Student Information System (SIS) — FACTS
Our Student Information System (SIS), FACTS, is used for managing student records, organizing coursework, and streamlining communication.
Collaboration Suite — Google Workspace
Google Workspace is our suite of collaborative tools that enhance instruction, prepare students for the future, and provide a secure learning environment.
Digital Literacy Curriculum — Microsoft Office
Microsoft Office is taught in specific high school classes to equip students with essential workplace and academic skills.
Web Filtering & Security
Bark Monitoring
We use Bark to monitor student online activity and detect potential concerns in their Google Workspace, such as suicidal ideation, threats of violence, explicit content, and cyberbullying.
Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFW)
Our industry-leading firewalls filter web traffic, enhance security, and exceed CIPA compliance requirements.
Middle School Web Filters
Chromebooks for middle school students include an additional web filter that limits access to educational sites, even at home.
While no web filter or cyber solution is 100% foolproof, we partner with top security vendors to create the safest online learning environment possible.
Help Desk & Support
Our IT team provides on-site technical support for students, teachers, and staff, with an average response time of under one hour and most issues resolved on the first attempt.
We also train high school student Tech Assistants (TAs) to support troubleshooting efforts. Their training and responsibilities vary based on skill level and interest, offering valuable hands-on experience in IT support.
Cell Phone Policy
Cell phones are now universally accepted as “necessities.” However, they can present challenges in the academic environment. It is the school leadership’s goal to help guard the integrity of the learning environment and instructional time. Therefore, the following policies have been developed. All students are subject to policies with regard to cell phone possession and usage.
Elementary School Students
Elementary students should not bring cell phones to school. If parents prefer a child to have a cell phone at school for safety, it will need to stay in the backpack. If the phone comes out of the backpack, the teacher will take the phone, and the parent will have to pick it up from the teacher at the end of the day. No cell phones are used for instruction. iPads and laptops are the only electronics used, and this use is under teacher supervision.
Middle School Students
Students in grades 6–8 may have their phones during the day, but they may use them only before school, between classes, and after school. Phones are to be kept in student lockers in silent mode during the school day. Students are not to have cell phones out at lunchtime. Students using their phones without permission during the school day (except between classes) will have their phones confiscated and turned in to the administration.
High School Students
Students in grades 9–12 may use their cell phones only before school, between classes (including lunch), and after school. Phones are to be kept in student lockers (on silent mode), or in their vehicles. Phones may not be brought into class, even if inside a bag, backpack, or pocket. Students will have their phones turned in to the administration if they have them in class or use them without permission during the school day (except between classes).
The administration has the right and responsibility to examine the contents of any device, and it should be noted that inappropriate content on the device shall be dealt with in accordance with the school’s behavior policy.
