RCS Online Parents & Students

Parents & Students

We consider RCS Online to be an extension of the Christian home. As a parent, you are a vital part of our online learning system — we count on your involvement and support to help your son or daughter succeed. This guide is your home base once you join the RCS Online family: policies, tools, and support, all in one place.

New to RCS Online? See the RCS Online Admissions guide for how to apply, and the RCS Online Tuition guide for costs.

The RCS Online Handbook

All RCS Online families are expected to review the Parent/Student Handbook, which covers policies, expectations, and program details in full.

How Learning Works Day to Day

What is a typical school day like?

A school day varies for each child, but the system provides a suggested calendar so students know exactly what to complete in each subject every day in order to finish by the agreed-upon goal end date. Students may complete all their work in one sitting or space it throughout the day. A student carrying a full course load spread over 8–9 consecutive months typically spends three to five hours a day on the computer.

Will my student be learning synchronously with in-person students?

No — RCS Online students learn asynchronously. No two students are in the same place in their coursework at the same time. Students still receive excellent academics integrated with biblical teaching, but the curriculum is separate from what on-campus students are learning, and communication is with assigned virtual teachers rather than peer-to-peer.

What curriculum will my student use?

RCS Online students learn from Ignitia, a Christian curriculum from Imagine Learning that integrates Christ-centered lessons with a robust course offering, plus select teacher-created Canvas courses designed by RCS Online educators. High school students may take Honors-level courses in English, Math, and Anatomy & Physiology; AP options are not currently offered. Because the RCS Online curriculum isn’t aligned with the on-campus curriculum, mid-year transfers between the two aren’t advised.

Who will be teaching my student’s classes?

RCS Online teachers are a mix of current in-person RCS teachers and educators hired specifically for remote instruction. All are hired through RCS’s standard hiring process and held to the same standards and accountability as on-campus staff. An experienced principal oversees the RCS Online program.

How Your Student’s Teacher Stays Connected

Students can reach their virtual teachers in the following ways:

  • Ignitia Messaging: Teachers respond to grading questions within 24 hours, and to project-grading questions within 48 hours.
  • Phone Office Hours: Students can call during a teacher’s office hours. Students receive a list of office hours and school extension numbers for each of their teachers.
  • Zoom Sessions: A Zoom session with the teacher can also be scheduled as needed.

How Parents Can Help Their Student Succeed

  • Set a consistent daily routine and a dedicated, distraction-free workspace.
  • Check in on your student’s Ignitia progress and pacing calendar regularly.
  • Encourage your student to reach out to teachers early — through messaging, a scheduled call, or Zoom — rather than falling behind silently.
  • Keep communication open with your student’s teachers, especially around schedule changes like travel, competitions, or illness.
  • Review the Parent/Student Handbook together at the start of the year.

  • JavaScript: Must be enabled for pages to render correctly.

Network Filtering

The following domains must be added to the allowed list of any filtering, proxy, or firewall software: *.glynlyon.com, *.owschools.com, *.owschools.net, *.zendesk.com, *.cloudflare.com, *.zdassets.com, *.odysseyware.com, *.sooschools.com, *.sooschools.net, *.speechstream.net, and *.pendo.io.

RCS Academic Integrity Statement

RCS expects a full commitment to academic integrity from each RCS student. Your signature on your Enrollment Form is your commitment to academic integrity as a student at RCS Online.

What Does Academic Integrity Mean?

  • Your work on each assignment will be completely your own. This includes AI-generated material, which is not allowed.
  • You will not use resources of any kind while testing unless otherwise instructed by a teacher.
  • You will not practice plagiarism in any form.
  • You will not misuse content from the Internet.

Plagiarism is not just an offense that occurs when you have copied another writer’s exact words and called it your own; it is also an offense when you have closely imitated another writer. This means you should always read the source, then put the material into your own words — with no more than 5 consecutive words directly from the source.

All RCS Online instructors utilize a variety of technologies to check student work for authenticity. If an instructor confirms that a student has plagiarized work in any manner, the student will be subject to consequences determined by RCS Online administration and may be removed from the course with a failing grade.

Student Resources

At RCS Online we know students often need various resources in addition to assistance from their teachers. Current students can find valuable information and tools for academic assistance below.

College Corner

All things college planning for juniors and seniors — academic advising, virtual meetings, college readiness tools, scholarship resources, and future planning support.

Chapel, Sports & Extracurricular Activities

Local full-time RCS Online students may participate in sports for an additional athletic fee. Performance-based Fine Arts courses — including band, choir, theater, and Speech & Debate — require attendance in a class on the physical campus. Because even one on-campus class reclassifies a student as full-time on-campus and subject to full-time tuition, sports are currently the only extracurricular option available to full-time RCS Online students.
