Instrumental music at RCS begins in 6th grade and continues through senior year — a seven-year pathway that takes students from their very first notes to advanced ensemble performance.
Our program leaders are dedicated to igniting inspiration, providing excellent instruction, and cultivating skill in every young musician, while actively fostering individuality and self-expression along the way.
Students who commit to the journey graduate not just as instrumentalists, but as disciplined, collaborative musicians who understand what it means to pursue excellence as an act of worship.
Ensemble Opportunities
Concert Band
The heart of our instrumental program. Students develop technique, music literacy, and ensemble skills while preparing repertoire for concerts throughout the school year.
Pep Band
There’s nothing like a Cougar home game with the pep band in full voice. Our pep band brings energy and school spirit to RCS athletics — and gives students a fun, high-energy performance outlet where music and community meet.
Pit Orchestra
When the high school theater program stages its spring musical, our instrumentalists are in the pit making it happen. Pit orchestra gives students a professional-style experience: reading a full musical score, following a conductor, and supporting live performers night after night.
Instrumental Music by Division
Middle School (6th–8th Grade)
Students may choose band as a course elective beginning in 6th grade. These foundational years focus on instrument fundamentals, ensemble playing, and building the practice habits that carry musicians forward.
High School (9th–12th Grade)
High school musicians choose from a range of band courses and performance ensembles, with opportunities to compete at the district, state, and national levels — and to take their place in pep band and pit orchestra.
