Colorado Boys and Girls State

If you are interested in a career in politics after graduation, the Boys and Girls State programs through The American Legion is a great program to get involved with.

American Legion Colorado Boys State is a six-day hands-on experience in the operation of the democratic form of government, the organization of political parties, and the relationship of one to the other in shaping Colorado government. Boys state is for high school juniors going into their senior year with at least one semester left of school.

Mission of Girls State:

“To provide an outstanding, unique, and coveted educational opportunity for the young women of our nation that instills the basic ideals and principles of American government through the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State and American Legion Auxiliary Girls Nation citizenship training programs.” Auxiliary units in all 50 states proudly host ALA Girls State, an amazing week of learning focused on responsible citizenship and love for God and Country. Students are assigned to mock cities where, divided into the Federalist Party and Nationalist Party, they are immersed in learning about the political process from dedicated volunteers, along with some fun. To qualify to participate in ALA Girls State, girls must be in their Junior year of high school. The Colorado Girls State program is provided to qualified girls free of charge.

Summer Programs for Juniors and Sophomores

Summer is a great opportunity to take advantage of programs that colleges offer across the country for rising juniors and seniors. If you are interested in a particular program of study at a particular college, search their website for summer programs as this can give you first hand experience with living on the campus while exploring if the major is a fit for you.
