Q&A with Camden Martin, Winner of the Daniels Fund Scholarship

RCS Senior, Camden Martin, was recently awarded the Daniels Fund Scholarship, a coveted scholarship worth up to $100,000 toward tuition at the college or university of his choosing. Daniels Scholars are selected for their “strength of character, leadership potential, commitment to serving the community, and academic potential.” We asked Cam a few questions about this incredible achievement, and here’s what he had to say:

Q. What made you decide to apply for the Daniels Scholarship?

A. I decided to apply to the Daniels Scholarship because really it was an opportunity that I could not pass up. Because I qualified in the necessary ways, I applied because of how beneficial this scholarship will be for my future and having the connections through the Daniels Fund will be great for me.

Q. What was the selection process like?

A. The selection process was definitely more challenging and took longer than most scholarships would. I had to apply with all of my personal and school information, then I had to write a couple essays, have letters of rec written for me, and the final, biggest step was an interview. There was a lot of preparation that went into this for sure.

Q. Where will you be going to college?

A. I finally decided to attend the University of Tennessee in Knoxville next year! I applied to a lot of schools and it was difficult to completely make a decision, but I think UTK will be a great fit for me.

Q. What kind of degree will you be working toward?

A. I will be working toward a degree in either Business Analytics or Supply Chain Management through the Haslam Business School. I have known that I wanted to do something business for a while now, but I have finally been able to narrow down my major because those two degrees are great at Tennessee.

Q. What goals do you have for your future?

A. For my future, I just have the goal of doing what I love with the people that I love. Who knows exactly what career I will be in for the rest of my life, but as long as I love what I do and it benefits others I know that I will be happy.

Q. What kind of advice would you give to future RCS Seniors who want to apply to be a Daniels Scholar?

A. For future RCS seniors that would like to be a Daniels Scholar, I would say that putting in your best effort now is going to pay off. With opportunities like the Daniels Fund Scholarship ahead of you, choose to make the right decisions now, so that by the time you are going to college you have set yourself up for success. Also, get involved, because life is so much more than just school. The Daniels Fund is looking for people that are well-rounded.

Congratulations, Cam!
