Keep Brains Sharp – Simple Ways to Prevent the Summer Slide

While students deserve a well-earned break, summer can lead to a “summer slide”—a loss of academic skills during long stretches away from school. Thankfully, it’s easy to keep those skills fresh with a few simple, fun activities.

Here’s how to help your child stay sharp this summer:

  • Math in real life. Practice budgeting at the grocery store, measuring ingredients in recipes, or counting change at the lemonade stand.

  • Word games and journaling. Play Scrabble or Boggle, write in a travel journal, or make a summer scrapbook with captions and stories.

  • Educational apps and podcasts. Choose Christian podcasts or learning games that balance screen time with meaningful content.

At Resurrection Christian School, our teachers work hard all year to help students grow spiritually and academically. Staying mentally active over the summer makes a big difference when school starts back up!

And speaking of back-to-school—it’s not too early to start thinking about the 2025–26 school year. We’d love to welcome your family into our Cougar community.

Enrollment is still open, but spots are limited. Schedule a tour or submit your application now at rcschool.org/admissions.
